Freemasonry in Cannanore started in the Year in the 1813, the first Lodge in Cannanore was consecrated under a Local Warrant issued on December 27, 1813 and went by the name Lodge of Fortitude and Perseverance. This consisted of mainly armed personnel of the Eighth Regiment of Foot. In the Year 1817 it shifted to Quilon in Travancore State and on January 20, 1829 it received its warrant from the Grand Lodge of England. In 1832 it bore the register No. 471. The last return made by this Lodge to the Grand Lodge was in 1828. It was erased on November 21, 1837 when its warrant was returned.

The next to appear was in the year 1830 and went by the name Lodge Oriental Star No. 619. It was erased on January 4, 1862.


The third to come was on September 26, 1823 under a Provincial Warrant with the name Corinthian Lodge No. 659. This later in 1836 moved over to Madras and was finally erased on January 4, 1862.

The last in the line, Western Star Lodge No. 1049 was consecrated at Cannanore on January 2, 1864. The date on the warrant was January 17, 1865. It was erased in the year 1904. There is no further evidence of any Masonic activity after that date, till the present Lodge under the Grand Lodge of India was formed.

Records also show that a Mark Lodge functioned in Cannanore from 1866 to 1876 under the name Mark Lodge James Edward No.93

Lodge Cannanore No.234 was warranted on 15th December 1977 and consecrated on 11th March 1978.
